How to Take Care of the Filters on Your NXT Dehumidfier
It can be confusing to know what exactly to do with the filters on your dehumidifier. Clean them? Replace them? The answer depends on the type of filter. All NXT dehumidifiers come standard with a pre-filter and a MERV-10 filter. You also have the option to purchase a carbon filter or a HEPA filter to replace the MERV-10 filter in your unit. Here’s a breakdown on how to take care of each filter:
Pre-Filter:
What is it?: The pre-filter is installed in front of other filters (MERV-10, Carbon, or HEPA) and is the first line of defense. It is designed to prevent any larger objects from reaching the second filter.
How to Clean: The pre-filter is washable so you can simply vacuum or wash with warm water (no soap) to remove any debris. Depending on how dirty the environment, you may have to replace the pre-filter after prolonged usage. You can tell the filter needs to be replaced if you are no longer able to get it clean. We recommend checking this filter at least once per year.
MERV-10 Filter
What is it?: The MERV-10 filter is designed to remove dirt and dust particles from the air. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value and ranges from 1-20. The higher the value, the more efficient the filter will be at trapping airborne particles.
